About The Scholarship

Application for the Singapore Scholarship must be submitted on the prescribed application form (The application form and supporting documents must be of A4 size and printed on one side only). Please contact the Singapore Embassy/High Commission/Consulate-General in your capital city for a copy of the Singapore Scholarship brochure and application form. You may click here for a softcopy of the application form for AY 09/10.
Applicants will be required to submit a typed-written essay of about 300-500 words. The essay is an important part of your application.
All supporting documents have to be attached. Those supporting documents that are not in English must have a certified translation in English. Translation and certification of transcripts and academic records have to be done by your educational institutions.
Applications must be endorsed and submitted by their respective ASEAN Governments. The relevant agencies to endorse the application are:

Who Is Eligible
Citizens of ASEAN member countries (except Singapore) are eligible to apply for the Singapore Scholarship.
Candidates must have an outstanding academic record, a good command of English and meet the entry requirements for NTU, NUS and SMU. They are:

– completed General Certificate of Education Advanced Level with a pass in English and 3 other ‘A’ level subjects

– currently undergoing 1st year or 2nd year of undergraduate studies in a local Cambodian university

Candidates have to complete the above requirements within a 3-year period prior to the date of application.

MALAYSIAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP (MIS) FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES IN MALAYSIA
Malaysian International Scholarship (MIS) is a Premier Scholarship for international students to pursue their higher education in Malaysian universities. Funded by the Malaysian Government under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP), it is administered by the Ministry of Higher Education. The awards were initiated to provide young students of excellent academic records and outstanding co-curriculum background the opportunity to pursue their Bachelor’s Degree at selected and well established Malaysian public and private universities. The scholarship is a part the Malaysian Goverment’s objective in the encouragement and enhancement of closer bilateral relations between Malaysia and the participating countries. The Malaysian Government offers up to 15 MIS Scholarships each year.

Graduate Scholarships for International Students
I. Basic Information on the Scholarships
The scholarships are provided by the Chinese Government and Zhejiang University jointly for prospective international students to study for Ph.D. Degrees at Zhejiang University.
1. 60 scholarship students will be accepted for the fall semester of 2008 and spring semester of 2009;
2. Details:
Awardees will be exempt from tuition and fees for registration, laboratory experiments, internship, basic learning materials, and intramural accommodation;
- Living allowance: CNY 1,400 per month for doctoral students;
– Fee for outpatient medical services and Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for International Students in China: CNY 600 per person per annum;
– A one-off settlement subsidy for new students after registration: CNY 600 per person.
3. Duration:
The duration of the scholarship for all programs with English as the media of instruction is the same as the normal length of the specific programs.
II. An Overview of Zhejiang University:
Zhejiang University is located in the coastal city of Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province, which lies 180 km away from Shanghai, a metropolitan city in China. As one of the China’s Seven ancient capitals, Hangzhou is a world-famous tourist resort praised as “a paradise on earth”, boasting very favorable natural conditions, with a mild climate, convenient transportation systems, picturesque scenery and rich cultural heritage.
The university is one of the few top-ranking research institutions of higher learning in China. It has a full coverage of disciplines in 11 major branches of Learning, Namely Philosophy, Literature, History, Education, Sciences, Economics, Law, Management, Engineering, Agriculture and Medicine. With a history of more than 80 years of graduate education, the university now offers 331 academic and professional Master’s Degree programs and 283 Doctoral programs. Under its administration there are 14 Nation Key Laboratories, 2 National Engineering Research Centers and 3 National Engineering Technology Centers and 43 post-doctor stations. At present, the university has a full-time student body of over 39,000, with 22,900 undergraduates, over 15,700 Master’s Degree students and over 6,600 Ph.D. candidates, and the university also has about 1,700 international students coming from over 100 countries.

III. Application
l Eligibility
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals and in good health.
2. Applicants must have a Master’s Degree.
3. Applicants must be under the age of 40.
4. Applicants should have a competitive academic record.
5. Applicants should have strong scientific research ability.
6. Applicants must NOT be beneficiaries of any other kinds of sponsorships.
l Language Used in Teaching
- English is used as instructional language for programs in Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Economics, Business, and Medicines.
l Application Materials
All applicants must fill in and provide the following materials truly and correctly.
1. The Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (Download) in Chinese or in English.
2. Highest diploma (notarized photocopy). If applicants are university students or already employed, they should also provide documents of being university students or on-post employees. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.
3. Applicants for doctoral studies need to provide notarized copies of their undergraduate and graduate transcripts. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.
4. A photocopy of the passport and a recent photo (white background, 35mm × 45mm in size).
5. A study or research proposal in Chinese or in English (no less than 800 words).
6. Two letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors (in Chinese or English).
7. Published academic papers or other academic achievements (if applicable).
8. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (printed by Chinese quarantine authority. Applicants are expected to keep the original copies) filled in English. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. The medical examination results will be valid for 6 months. All applicants are kindly requested to take this factor into consideration as they plan to take the medical examination.
Applicants should submit the above materials to the International College of Zhejiang University before May 30, 2008 for the programs starting in fall 2008 and before Sept. 20 2008 for those starting in spring 2009. Application materials will NOT be returned regardless of the result of application.
l Choices of Programs
Please check the Major Doctoral Programs. Applicants are encouraged to contact their prospective supervisors at Zhejiang University prior to application and are expected to enclose in their application package the relevant recommendation letters written by those supervisors.
l Approval and Notification
Zhejiang University will review all the application materials. Decisions for admission and for granting the scholarships will be made on the basis of the applicants’ competitiveness, academic and otherwise. The name list of the scholarship awardees for programs starting from the fall semester of 2008 will be publicized before July 31, 2008 after it is reviewed by China Scholarship Council. Admission Notices and other relevant documents will be sent to the awardees afterwards.

IRCSET’s Embark Postgraduate Research Scholarship Scheme is designed for either Masters or Doctorate level researchers in the sciences, engineering or technology.
Postgraduate Research Scholarship Scheme 2008 [Second Call]
The Embark Initiative’s Postgraduate Research Scholarship Scheme is designed for either Masters or Doctorate level researchers in the sciences, engineering or technology.
The Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering & Technology invites applications for funding from intending postgraduate researchers under the Embark Initiative Postgraduate Research Scholarship Scheme (2008).
The 2008 programme will fund approximately 80 new entrant Masters or Doctorate level researchers in the sciences, engineering and technology.
A number of additional scholarships will be jointly funded by industry as part of IRCSET’s Enterprise Partnership Scheme (see below for details). This scheme fosters mutually beneficial collaboration between the academic and commercial research sectors.
The scheme is open to candidates worldwide with a small number of the scholarships available to exceptional candidates from non EU member states.
Under the Postgraduate Research Scholarship Scheme, funding of €24,000 is provided for each of three years for Doctorate level research (total funding of €72,000) and one year (€24,000) for Masters level research.
The Closing Date for all applications will be 5.00pm, 20th August 2008.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE TO CANDIDATES
All applicants require TWO references to support their application, as follows:
(1) A reference from your proposed research supervisor.
(2) A reference from a professor, lecturer, tutor, research advisor or other senior figure in the research domain covered by your application.
Applicants who are transferring from undergraduate level need to supply an additional reference from a professor, lecturer, tutor, research advisor or other senior figure in the research domain covered by their application.
The reference process is accessed through the Online Applications System above. It is the absolute responsibility of applicants to ensure that their referees are aware of the requirement to complete and submit the reference forms online.
Referees do not need to register with the system until prompted to do so by an automated email from IRCSET.

Enterprise Partnership Scheme
Within this call, a number of Enterprise Partnership Awards are also being offered in conjunction with participating industry partners. The Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology gratefully acknowledges the valuable participation of these organisations.

The Enterprise Partnership Scheme allows scholars to be co-funded by both IRCSET and an Enterprise Partner. The co-funding has enabled IRCSET to support many more young researchers in Irish research bodies and gives applicants to the Embark Scholarship calls a second chance for funding.
The researcher receives the same financial support as a postgraduate scholar under the normal Embark Initiative Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme. However, they also receive additional supervision and gain experience of research in an industrial environment.

Joint Japan / World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program, University of Tsukuba
To apply, applicants must:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree and have completed 16 years of school education (up to undergraduate level). A strong background in economics and associated quantitative tools is useful and,in the case of the Economic Policy Course, highly recommended.
NOTE: Those applicants having completed their university education in countries where formal schooling lasts less than 16 years, who are at least 22 years old, and who have spent at least one year in a research or similar institution, can become qualified to apply by filling out and submitting the provided form (Certificate of research Activities).
- Have at least 2 years (and preferably 4 to 5) of recent professional experience in a field related to economic development.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of the English language by submitting the TOEFL scores or other evidence as deemed appropriate by the Graduate School.
- Demonstrate verbal and quantitative skills by submitting the Graduate record Examination (GRE) scores or other evidence as deemed appropriate by the Graduate School.
- In addition,applicants must be under 45 (but preferably under 35) years of age. Priority will be given to mid-career professionals

Screening and Admission Procedures
The screening process will be based upon the evaluation of all documentation and, if necessary, on personal interviews conducted by the University of Tsukuba representatives in the countries of the candidates. Between twenty five and thirty candidates will be pre-selected by the Joint Japan/World Bank Scholarship Program Committee at the University of Tsukuba, in a process that will be completed by november 2008.
The World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank will further screen the pre-selected applicants for the sake of the granting of scholarships. The final selection of scholarship recipients (fifteen from the World Bank and no less than two from the Inter-American Development Bank) will be announced in late December 2008.
Selected candidates are expected to arrive in Tsukuba at the end of March 2009 for final interviews and orientation. Those pre-selected candidates who did not receive a scholarship and want to study at the University of Tsukuba must pay admission and tuition fees (at least for half a year) before they are formally admitted into the Program.The Program will begin on April 1, 2009.
Study Lilydale Scholarships, Swinburne University of Technology, Australia

From 2009 all international students who enrol in an on-campus, single degree at Lilydale will receive a Study Lilydale Scholarship.
The scholarship reduces the course fee by 10% each year for the duration of the degree. The fee reduction is off the published fee and does not apply to double degrees.
The Faculty of Higher Education, Lilydale offers programs in Business, Communications and Social Science. Students can combine majors and minors from all three discipline areas.
Eligibility criteria
1.1 The scholarship will apply to new commencing international students enrolling at The Faculty of Higher Education, Lilydale in 2009.
1.2 The scholarship is available to UG and PG coursework programs for single degrees. (Double degree programs and programs studied across multiple campuses are excluded).
1.3 Students must not be receiving any other form of Swinburne scholarship, or fee reduction.
1.4 There is no separate application required, as eligible recipients will automatically receive the scholarship at the time of enrolment.
1.5 Annual retention of the scholarship will be subject to satisfactory progress.
